New Madness...
Hey Folks!
For those concerned: The "coming soon" "Destroyer World: New Blood" book is at the printer! Looks great, reads great. I can't wait to see how its accepted by the readers! Once I have it, I'll post how to geit it here as well as the newsletter and at the various fan sites.
Now that that's been put to bed, so to speak, I decided I needed a new hobby. I mean, the astronomy, RV camping, publishing, dieting, photography, cover design, order processing/fulfillment, website design/management just haven't been enough to do, I guess...
Seriously, I've always wanted a saltwater aquarium but was afraid to start one. Well it seems to be a good bit of work, but nowhere near as hard to do as it apparently6 used to be. The fish are spectacular to look at and fun to watch. Very relaxing, too. (The relaxing part I've heard about from my wife. I've been working the ED this week/weekend. 3 nights in a row with multiple gunshot wound victims. After work I've been relaxing with a nice glass of cabernet {at 7 am!}, and falling to sleep shortly after that.)
I have a 29 gallon tank. I am using an Emperor 280 filter (made by marineland). I have a SeaClone 100 protein skimmer. I put in a small bubble wall for aesthetics. There is 15 lbs of live rock (from Fiji??) as well as a 3 inch bed of crushed coral and live sand. The tank seems to be handling the bioload well so far. Eventually, I'd like to make this a true Reef tank with the addition of corals and the like. But for now I am satisfied with a FOWLR (fish only with live rock) tank.
Tomorrow begins a 6 day stretch of days off. And I'm looking to enjoy the tank. So if anyone else out there has a saltwater tank and want to send me any easy to raise, hardy coral, feel free! I've had the tank running for about a week. The only fish in it currently are 2 clownfish (pic), a Royal Gramma (pic), a Flame Angel (pic), and a Banded Coral Shrimp (pic).
The Royal Gramma just hides under a rock all day. The rest of them are fairly playful with each other. The shrimp is nocturnal, so it's behind a rock all day. But when feeding time comes around he (his name is Scampi) he makes sure to come out a grab some! If anyone has any tips to share, or advice to give, email me.
Well...'Tanks' for stopping by!
Brian
BTW, the images I've linked to here were found via google and are copyrighted by their owners. I will replace them with images of my own fish once I take some!

I'm excited. New Blood is almost here!
I don't know anything about fish tanks, saltwater or fresh. My father had a tank for awhile, but I was about four, so all I remember is the guppies getting born.
If you decide to go with more than just fish (and shrimp) can the tank become a more self-sufficiant environment? You'd have to keep regulating the saline level no matter what goes in there, I'm guessing. There's no plant or creature that contributes that.
